A Display Ready for Graduation
For a university with Michigan State’s athletic tradition and brand recognition, a dark video wall in a high-traffic area wasn’t making the Dean’s List. MSU needed to replace its obsolete MicroTile system with a modern display that could deliver the visual impact expected of a major collegiate athletics program, including exceptional image quality at close viewing distances and support for multiple content sources.
The new solution also needed to be reliable, serviceable and flexible enough to support game highlights, player content, promotions, branding and marketing campaigns. By reusing existing infrastructure where practical and minimizing construction, MSU wanted a clean, flush installation paired with a refreshed control and processing environment that would simplify content management and remain flexible for future applications.

The Solution
COB Goes to College
Total LED partnered with Bluewater Technologies to develop a custom solution centered around the Titan Series 0.9mm COB LED display. Measuring approximately 23.61 feet wide by 4.43 feet high, the new wall delivers the scale needed to command attention while its ultra-fine pixel pitch provides crisp, detailed imagery for the close-viewing environment. After evaluating 1.2mm, 0.9mm and 0.6mm options, MSU selected 0.9mm as the ideal balance of performance, application requirements and budget.
COB technology adds durability and helps reduce maintenance in the busy collegiate athletics environment. The upgraded wall also supports up to six concurrent video sources, giving MSU greater flexibility to combine game highlights, player graphics, promotions, sponsor content and university communications on a single canvas. The result is a reliable, high-performance display that functions as a dynamic content platform—not simply a very large screen.
