There was a time when most dvLED conversations started and ended with picture quality. Pixel pitch. Brightness. Contrast. Color accuracy. Those things still matter, and they always will. Nobody wants to install a display that doesn't deliver a great visual experience. But if you ask our integration partners what's keeping them up at night, it's usually not the display technology itself. It's finding qualified labor. It's juggling overlapping project schedules. It's trying to protect margins while customers continue asking for projects to be completed faster than ever.


We've watched that shift happen firsthand. And if there's one lesson we've learned over the years, it's this: The best-looking LED wall in the world doesn't help your business if it takes too long to install.


Today, dvLED installation efficiency has become just as important as image quality.


Labor Has Changed the Equation

Talk to almost any integration firm today and you'll hear a similar story. Experienced installers are harder to find. Good crews are booked weeks, or even months, in advance. At the same time, customers aren't lowering their expectations. If anything, they're expecting projects to move even faster.


That puts tremendous pressure on project managers and installation teams. Every extra hour spent troubleshooting, adjusting cabinets, rerouting cables, or solving problems that could have been engineered out of the product has a real cost.

  • It's payroll.

  • It's overtime.

  • It's equipment rentals.

  • It's delayed schedules.

  • … and sometimes it's another project waiting for that same crew to become available.


We've learned that labor is one of the most valuable resources our integration partners have. That's why we believe every decision made during product development should respect their time.


Two Displays Can Look Identical on Paper

One of the biggest mistakes I see is evaluating displays only by their specifications. On paper, two products might appear almost identical. 

  • They may have the same pixel pitch.

  • The same brightness.

  • The same resolution.

  • The same refresh rate.


But specifications only tell part of the story. What they don't tell you is what happens once the crates are opened and the installers get to work.

  • Does cabinet alignment happen quickly?

  • Can adjustments be made easily?

  • How accessible are service components?

  • Is cable management straightforward?

  • Can technicians work efficiently without constantly fighting the hardware?


Those aren't the questions you'll usually find on a spec sheet. But they're the questions that often determine whether a project finishes ahead of schedule, or falls behind.


Every Hour Matters

One thing we've noticed over the last several years is that installation efficiency creates a ripple effect throughout an integration business. When a crew finishes a project sooner than expected, everyone benefits. 

  • Project managers can keep schedules on track.

  • Sales teams gain confidence knowing installation timelines are realistic.

  • Customers experience fewer disruptions.

  • Most importantly, installers can move on to the next project.


That's where real profitability begins. Saving a few hours on one installation may not sound like much. Saving those same hours across dozens of projects every year can make a significant difference to your business.

One thing I've always believed is that good engineering isn't just about electronics. It's about understanding what installers experience every day. If you've spent enough time on job sites, you know where the frustrations come from.

  • Mounting systems that require endless adjustments.

  • Difficult cable access.

  • Service procedures that turn a five-minute repair into a two-hour project.


Those aren't just inconveniences. They're the little things that quietly consume labor, increase frustration, and eat away at project margins.


When we develop products at Total LED, we spend a lot of time thinking about those moments. We ask ourselves questions like:

When installers aren't spending time fighting the product, they can spend more time focusing on the details that customers actually notice.

Most conversations about reliability focus on what happens after commissioning.

  • Will the display perform?

  • How long will it last?


Those are important questions. But I think reliability actually starts much earlier. It starts during installation. A system that's easier to assemble correctly is far more likely to perform consistently over its lifetime. A system that's designed with serviceability in mind is easier to maintain years down the road.


That's something we think about constantly. Because our relationship with our integration partners doesn't end when the display ships. It continues through installation, commissioning, and long after the customer begins using the system.
